One of the mantras of Damsels in Success is ‘Fill Yourself Up First’. Women are generally bad at this because they have a whole range of beliefs and emotions come up when someone suggests that they should take care of themselves first. Those  objections often look like this:

Yeah, like that is going to happen!

Isn’t that selfish?

You’re joking right?

I couldn’t possibly

What about my partner/kids/parents?

I’d feel guilty

I get some ‘me time’ once the kids are asleep

And even more heretical, filling yourself up first doesn’t mean grabbing 10 minutes here and there, it means scheduling time for yourself on a regular basis. You need to embrace the belief that you are indeed worth it, this may be a new way of thinking for you.

It means taking care of yourself, so that you can take care of others. It is not about being selfish – it’s about believing whole heartedly that in order to serve those you love at your absolute best, then you need to be at your best first. There is a very good reason why during an in-flight safety presentation you are told to attach your oxygen mask first in the event of an emergency. If you can’t breathe, you won’t be able to help anyone else.

So how about making a list right now of  things you could do to make yourself feel happy, relaxed, joyful, playful, fulfilled etc., etc., and make a time do do some of them this week.

You can make a start in filling yourself up by booking on to the ‘Live the Dream!’ Damsels Croydon launch on Friday by filling in your details over at this page:
